DIY IKEA Headphone Hanger
A couple of weeks ago I decided to jump into a IKEA nearby with one single objective, find some kind of fixing or contraption that could use or adapt to my desk so I could have my headphones hanging somewhere or hidden away but also I reachable whenever I needed them. Since I don’t have a lot of space in my bedroom or even in my desk, I looked for something that would allowed me to hang them under the desk or in one of the sides.
I did found a few items that with a bit of work would give a nice hanger, but some of them required a bit of hacking, meaning cutting and bending and some other stuff. Then I came across this two accessories.
This first one is a handle, that can be used in most of the IKEA furniture including drawers. It costs £2 a pack of two and I liked it because is quite compact, has some nice smooth edges, so it doesn’t damage your headphones. The downside to this one is that you can’t fit it under your desk, unless you bend it, but it does fit nicely in one of the sides or even in the front. Doesn’t take a lot of space, but for me didn’t work since I have more that one set of headphones and I because also I’m a bit clumsy with my stuff I probably would be hitting this all the time.
I ended up using this to have my in-ears, next to my desk stuck on the side of my closet.
The second one, yes it is what you thinking, or maybe not.
Its called GRUNDTAL and it is a Toilet roll holder, it costs around £5 and its made from stainless steel. Looks quite nice and has nice finish to it, but you can paint it to match your setup. I will provably going to paint mine black to match the desk color. You can fit however you like it. Under, on the side, on to one of the desk leg, if your desk has enough space in there. You can also have it on top of your desk, but here your going to hack it to give it some height, since the distance between the cylinder and the fixing base is a bit short.
Here’s some pictures and the final result.
As can see in the picture I also tried to revers the cylinder, it doesn’t look bad but it goes a bit out of the desk and I probably was going to hit it with my legs.
I also did a research after I bought all the stuff, which I could have done before going to store and spend a couple of hours trying to find something nice that would fit my needs. And no,I’m not the first one to have this idea, I did find a nice article on LifeHacker.com that you can have a look.
Any ideas that you found or had and would like to share. Leave a comment down below.
