A look at the Supernova Closed Beta MOBA game
Recently I got the chance to get a Beta Key and give a try at Supernova a new MOBA by a Startup Game Studio called Primal and published by BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment.
I played the tutorial campaign and did a couple of multilayer matches. So this is my opinion on the game and others people opinions may vary since I’m not into MOBA type of games, being that the only similar games that played the most were StarCraft and DOTA 2.
Speaking of DOTA, game play mechanics is quite similar, but every MOBA game is similar when it becomes to play style only varying in the type of characters and type of world/universe related to. There is two race you can play as Humans and Cyborgs, each on of them with different characters called Commanders that you can play with, they have different strengths / abilities and different types of weapons. This is classic 5×5 Match – 3 lane Arena where you can play against other online players or 5 online players against the AI.
As you play you will get experience points and in game currency to get new types of units, new abilities, skins among other extras that you can choose to have on you game profile and can’t be change during the battle, there’s also a premium currency currency called Platinum and that you can actually buy and will get things faster instead of waiting to have the “normal” in-game currency to be able to get things, to be honest I don’t know yet how this is going to impact the game progress or matches since I haven’t played enough to have a clear look at this, but I do know that some times this might take some of the “fun” out of the game, this happens when match making is not refined enough and you end up getting in matches with people that spend a lot of money in the game and have better resources than you not making the game fair.
This games also introduces units, this is not something new and kinda reminds me of StarCraft being the difference is that you don’t have to build structures, but you have different types of units that you can craft that will progress trough the arena, you can also upgrade the units and they will spawn at every few minutes depending on how often they will die and how the game progresses. Also each Commander will have their units that will go trough the lane they are point at and you don’t have any control in which direction they go or what they decide to attack.
Overall is not a bad game, but doesn’t bring something that new to the table when it comes to current MOBA’s that are already out there. I’m still going to play a bit more, but I don’t believe that I’ll be switch over from Starcraft to this anytime soon.
For more information on the game you can visit Supernova’s site here.
I have a extra Beta key to give away, so the first person to comment will get the key.
