Let’s wrap 2015
2016 is here and 2015 is far gone, well not that far, but gone. So it’s time wrap things up, take a look on how thinks went last year and see where can I improve.
This time I didn’t make any resolutions, most of the time they don’t work anyway, stuff like eat better, go somewhere, get this or that and even going to gym (although this last one might be one of the this that I have to do soon, let’s see). So this time, I made a TODO list (I call it my S**T TODO List) of things I’ll try to get done this year, let’s called them objectives things I always wanted to do, but never took the time to do it. For several reasons, yes, including being lazy sometimes.
Last year started really bad for me, new country, relationship problems, a lot a house moving. Working not going as expected and so on, but things got better by the end of the year.
So let’s talk about objectives, one of my main goals for this year is to learn about game design. A lot a people asked me why this? Why unexpected interested in game design out of nowhere? The answer is quite simple actually. It was something I always liked and was interested a few years back and that took me to learn 3D Studio Max and latter made me transition to Cinema 4D. Unfortunately it ended up fading over the years. I always found and still do, game design fascinating.
I decided to take some of my time to learn more about it, mainly modeling, texturing and lighting. Being the last two kind of weak point for me when it comes to 3D. The tools I choose for this are a bit unusual since at least on of them (Cinema 4D) it’s not the most used when it comes to level and asset design, but it’s the most comfortable for me when it comes to modeling, so I’m stick to it, the other tools are Substance Painter and the Epic Unreal Engine. I’m curious on how this kind of work pipeline and relation between software is going to work with each other. But that’s enough about Games, I will talking more about it on another article and share my experiences and what I learn with it.
Other important bullet point in my TODO list is work, true is I don’t feel fully realized on job that I have now, and probably never will anywhere, but that’s not a bad thing per say. But I believe it’s time to move on, find something else. I’m not looking for the perfect job, that is a rare find. I’m looking for something that allows me to grow in my career and learn more and that it pulls my interest. And doing something that you like is the path to have a happier life outside work in my believe. This also means it’s time to update my portfolio. I used to have my own Portfolio website, designed and developed by me but I soon realized that I was putting to much time in coding and development instead of focus in displaying my work and upload new stuff. I ended up moving to a another platform and started using Behance, since is quite easy to upload you work that and has a great community of designers around it. So one of my main priorities is to upload more stuff and update my folio on Behance and with this also take the time to finish some unfinished projects.
There’s more stuff in my list other than this, including going to more events and trade shows, specially tech and game related, last year I had the opportunity to be in some good events, 3D London Print Show was one them, a big thanks to the Sketchfab guys for this one. And of course Minecon London, this was an incredible event for sure.
Let’s see how things going to take shape this year, only time will tell, but I’m aiming for the best, I don’t believe in New Year Resolutions, but I believe everyone should have objectives in life and do the best they can to achieve them. That’s my plan and I’m going to stick to it whatever it takes, because nothing comes for free. Thanks for reading! Out!
