3D Print Show London
Last weekend was was invited to help the Sketchfab guys at the 3D Print Show, where we were scanning the show visitors with a 3D scanner and upload the 3D model to Sketchfab and 3D printing a small version of them as well.
I had a lot of people asking me about the scanner that we used, it’s called Structure Sensor and it’s made by Occipital and at the moment I believe it’s only available for the Ipad (but please correct me if I’m wrong), you can find more info at their website at structure.io
You can see the scans on Skecthfab 3D Selfies Page.
Was quite a fun weekend. We also had a Meetup on Friday night as well, I had the pleasure to meet some of the community members and Bart, who I had the pleasure to work with on the show floor, Bart is the Head of Community for Sketchfab, he’s also the guy behind Blender Nation one of the biggest places on the web for Blender tutorials and resources.
Also for the 3D Designer and Artists out there, if you never heard of Sketchfab, it’s a great platform where you can share your 3D models and Scans, and allows you to view it in 3D, real time, on the browser, without the need of any plugin. or external software. At the time it supports almost any 3D file format to be uploaded directly to the website, or you can export your model from your favorite 3D modeling software using one of the many plugins available here.
Now, the 3D Print Show, what it is? It’s a trade show where some the big industry names of the 3D Print Business get together to showcase and reveal their new products, but it’s not just about the big companies showing up their new £5000 printers, there are some small companies present at the show even some startups as well. I believe 3D Print is just scratching the surface of what you would be able to do in the future, as the technology grows and would be able to print in even more kinds of materials and with much more precision and detail.
